2024 in Review

When you have your head down hard at work, it can be easy for the months to whiz on by. It’s important to take a moment to stop and reflect on the outcomes of all that effort, and really appreciate the accomplishments and achievements we have earned together. 2024 has been a tremendous year for the team at Ascension Automation, and as we reflect on the growth, opportunities, and excitement this past year has given us, we are filled with immense gratitude.

In September, Ascension Automation was named the 9th Top Growing Company in Canada by the Globe and Mail, based on our 3-year revenue growth of 4,872%. This ranking reflects the substantial growth we’ve achieved not only in this past year, but also captures the high growth preceding years.

This past summer, we launched our third subsidiary, Ascension Industrial Services, which provides electrician and millwright shift coverage, preventive and predictive maintenance, rigging and installations, and more. Ascension Industrial Services joins Ascension Manufacturing and Ascendant Coatings as valued members of the Ascension Group of Companies.

We expanded our offerings earlier this year by creating a dedicated Machine Vision team to work on developing bespoke vision solutions for our clients. This has included significant work on deep learning models to support vision projects, as well as a partnership with a team of researchers at McMaster University to develop an AI-driven heat shield defect detection system for a mutual client.

We have also taken a deeper dive into R&D, with our engineers developing new solutions and applications for traditional robot cells and cobots (collaborative robots). Our research team has developed prototypes for a variety of industries, including agriculture and energy.

As always, workplace safety has remained a key focus of ours, not only in our own shop (where it is of paramount importance) but also for our clients. With that in mind, we have become distributors for two key brands in the safety space; FumeDog, which manufactures weld fume extractors to keep the air healthy while welding, and Titan Guarding, whose AI-backed Atlas Door automatic guarding system helps keep technicians safe by identifying the completion of dangerous applications before providing access to the robot cell.

The Ascension team at our annual holiday party

We are thrilled to have ended the year with our annual Ascension holiday party, where we raised a total of $1,530 for Autism Ontario through our 50/50 draw and prize raffles. The organization has, from its inception, placed an emphasis on being a positive community partner, and continues to do so through its various donations of money, time, equipment, and educational opportunities.

Throughout this last year, as with years prior, Ascension Automation has placed a strong emphasis on minimalist automation; the priority remains to provide solutions to complex problems that are well-engineered, efficient, and simple to implement. As we look ahead to the exciting projects we have on the horizon in 2025, we will continue to build effective, complex systems that function with ease, giving our clients confidence in their robotics solutions and transforming the landscape of robotics technology.
